How Do You Pick Between Like Minds?
April 9, 2007 |
It’s no big secret that, on the issues, candidates of the big, upcoming MA-05 race share many of the same key positions. Mimi over at LeftinLowell wrote about what this race is really going to be about:
It is obvious that most of these candidates have many of the same views on healthcare, the War, education, immigration, and global warming. So this race will be come down to character, capability, experience, and organizational skills.
So, what does that mean for this race? Some candidates - by virtue of their political philosophy - may become the defacto “progressive” choice; they may be the candidates that believe in people-powered government. Other candidates may seem like the more experienced pick, maybe able to jump right in and build quick seniority with old friends. Still, others may represent a taste of what many Democrats in Massachusetts love: socially liberal, fiscal conservatism. Who knows?
But something is going to decide this race - and it’s unlikely that it’ll be the issues. So, it’s going to come down to political philosophy and just what a voter wants in a candidate. As long as money and name-recognition doesn’t win by default, it’ll be a good race.

FYI, Ryan, that was Mimi not me, I haven’t yet had time to write my impressions due to client meetings and stuff, plus when I write about it I plan on being extensive…which is time consuming…
woops! thanks for the correction.
